Editing blog

Day two of Filming/editing. Pretty anxious on editing today. It might just be the feeling of the video not looking like it was in my head. It’s not a major issue though I am sure it will be just fine. After not being here for the first day I have to compensate for what I have missed. My partner worked with another group last class. They had to improvise, so they filmed a Nike and Gatorade commercial. My team and the other group we are going collaborate again today. First with having to take the videos and images dumped and move them to a flash drive. We got worried that our footage might have been deleted.

Then we figured out that we had to use the same computer that we dumped on. So we waited for the group that was there to move. Then hopped right on and started downloading. The computers are running very slow. Are computer isn’t the only one that is moving slow today. We have successfully downloaded all videos needed for the commercial. During the process of downloading our computer went black. The group was in shock, but it came back on and was fine. Right now my partner and I are uploading the videos to both our google drives. This will allow for us access the videos through our gmail. Just in case any of us are absent.

The computer we are using Does not have the editing software needed. Pinnacle studios is going to be the software we are using. This is an editing software given to students by the school. It would normally cost 59.95 dollars to have the software. So we need to find a new computer. Downloading the videos of on to the google drive should be helpful for this. We were just told the editing software is extremely slow or not working. Now we just have to do our blogs. We will have to right another blog next class, but not sure on what. I am pretty sure it is going to be on editing like how it was suppose to be today.

Story board

Today in class we went to the lecture hall. We worked on our storyboards. I found it a bit challenging to come up with different scenes and camera shots/angles. My partner and I are doing the commercial about Nike shoes. The plot of it is going to be how the shoes make a person run faster.First shot is establishing/ wide shot with the two characters in frame. Then the next angle is going to be over the shoulder and character two challenging character one to a race. It will cut to a two shot of them walking, will quickly go to a close up on an arm on character ones shoulder. Next it will switch to a medium shot of character three telling character one to put these on. Character three hands a Nike box to character one, there will be a extreme close up in the box.Next shot is a high angle of character one tying his shoes. Then it will go to them at the starting line which will be two shot and starting tracking shot. It will track them till a certain point then will go two a pan of them running. When they are running character two will slow down like he is losing the race badly.Last shot will be character one winning with a shot (not sure the name) with character one up close and character two blurred in the background.

Editing lesson

Today in class we began learning on how to use the pinnacle editing software. Started off with the steps on how to properly use the camera and sign it out. Mrs.M went over how to charge the camera and to put in the SD card without damaging it. Next I learned on how to start editing with importing and dumping. Mrs.M went over little editing details such as how to add effects, adjust the lighting, add a title, and etc. After that she showed the class how to put music and separate audio for voice overs. Lastly she finished off on how to export and save our projects and commercial. Our camera procedure was first to sign the form and fill out the information, next  go to the door over by the teachers desk to get the camera, lastly over by the front door place the form in the 5th period folder. When we are done with the camera we have to take the form out of the folder, make sure the camera is fine, then go back to the room where we got it, put away the camera and put the form in the return folder. When going out to record the group has to sign out media pass so we can go around campus and we must always have our IDs on.
Every time a group or a person needs a camera they have to sign a form every time. Another thing we learned was the SD card and SD reader. These are important for importing and exporting videos and audio. If some one ends up not dumping their videos on a computer they have a chance of losing all of their stuff off the SD card. If you do not buy an SD card for yourself some one else can use that SD card in your camera and could delete all of you stuff. Using a tripod can be useful for steady shots, pans, tilts, and etc. When moving around with the tripod you have to keep it in the closed up/shorten phase and not have it fully extended or open. To attach the camera first unscrew the plaque then find the screw hole on the bottom of the camera and put that on top of the little button on the plaque. After attach the plaque back on the tripod with the camera. If the camera is shaky you can tighten the camera by twisting the quarter things on the tripod near the camera.
Dumping is an important process for editing it is taking footage from the camera to computer. The steps to do so are first take the SD card and put it in the SD reader. Before you do any of this make sure you have a folder create so you can save the footage. Once you have the SD card in take the videos and put them in the folder. They should be found under DCIM if not then it should be under private. When the footage is all on the computer move all of it onto the editing software. Finding it can be easier if you look at the dates. In the pinnacle editing software there is a tab called flex editor where you can adjust brightness, add text or make a person still. If you place text you can have it do motions or make it appear in certain points of a video. Corrections adjust the brightness to make it night time in a bright setting or day time in a dark setting.

planning blog for Nike commercial

Our commercial project is going to be about Nike running shoes. I am working with Kendrid Joseph and today for class we have to plan out our commercial by listing props, costumes, schedule, location, an a back up plan. Since it is going to be only Kendrid and I this will be a little challenging trying to find people to be in our commercial. We are still deciding on whether we are going to make a commercial showing off the Nike running shoe or have the commercial be about a scenario where Nike shoes can be beneficial to certain problems.  Since there are only two of us and 1 day to film our commercial, if we agree on doing the Nike scenario commercial, that can change on the day that were filming just in case something comes up, and we cannot do it anymore. In case that happens we will have to switch up and do the commercial on showing off the Nike shoes.

Props: what we will need for this commercial is Nike box, cool Nike running shoes or Nike shoes (depending on what commercial we do).

Costumes: running or athletic wear (make sure it’s not supporting any other brands such as Adidas or under armor) and the Nike shoes.

Schedule: today (10/10) we are planning for our commercial. (10/14) we will officially start our story board one for showing off the shoes and another for the scenario. (10/21) we are going to start filming. (10/24) we will finish up and start editing the commercial.

Location: Track field, (back up plan->) bus loop, stairs, hallway, and also the track field.

Back up plan: This will be in case we cannot find people to be in our video, one of us is not here, or if the weather conditions are bad. We will have the back up plan story board along with the original idea, the back up is on the showing off the Nike shoe.

Commercial idea

For our 25-30 second commercial, we are going to be making a Nike shoes Commercial. We already have an idea of what the commercial will be about, but we are also still thinking of other ideas just in case our original idea appears to be a little too long. We are also still trying to figure out what and who we will need for this commercial. The research that we are doing for our commercial is to help us know what exactly is needed in making a good Nike commercial. We looked at a few Nike commercials on YouTube for a bit of inspiration. We also looked at some terrible commercials on YouTube, to know exactly what we should not add to our commercial. The commercial convention of a Nike commercial is usually done anywhere where there are athletes or at a place where people get physical with their body. For example, gym, basketball court, football field, baseball field, fitness center etc. The things that are usually in a Nike commercial can vary depending on what the advertised Nike product is, whether it’s a shoe, sports gear, shirts, shorts etc.

Extract blog

Last class on October 3rd, 2019, Mr. Kat showed the class an extract of Mr.Robot so we could practice for the end of the year exam. We had to spot and write down the different camera angles, sounds, editing, and mis en scene. I was not prepared at all, i knew the basics angles and movements but when it came to the sounds and editing I had no clue. After the extract I learned that i had to memorize those words and definitions by heart so they would help me in the future.
